Drop In The Ocean || Dean&Emerald
Looking at her, he could feel the smile on his lips staying prominent. “Oop— hold on a sec. There’s ooooone last thing.” Digging into his pocket, he pulled out a small candle and quickly lit it with a match. “If it’s too much, feel free to blow it out. I just thought it’d be nice to have a little light.” He shrugged his shoulders as he opened the box which held the blueberries and strawberries. Offering them to her, he raised his eyebrows a little. “Want one?”
Emerald watched curiously as he dug something out of his pocket, bringing out a candle. She gave a quick laugh before shaking her head. “Nah, it’s cool. Now I can actually see you instead of just looking at what I think is you.” Spotting the blueberries, Emerald gave the boy across from her a look “Is that even a legitimate question?” she asked, reaching into the box for a blueberry. Instead of eating it though, she tossed it at his face and watched it bounce off of him. “When have I ever denied a blueberry?” She popped another one into her mouth, chewing for a moment before she realized something. “Oh, and thank you, by the way. I just realized I never actually said thank you. It’s nice to get out of the stuffy underground area of Thirteen.” Emerald paused to look over towards the small container. “So, what do we have to drink in there?” she questioned, peering down into it.

Hearing her joke did make him crack up a little. Although she normally wasn’t funny when she tried, she normally was when she was just running her mouth. “Hardy, har, har. You should do stand up.” Thankfully, it didn’t take them that long to reach their destination, and he as glad when he seen the smile form on her face. Grinning even wider when she wrapped her arms around him. “Only the best for my bestie, right?” As he sat down on the blanket, he opened up the small container which was holding the food. The food in Thirteen was never exactly ‘good’, but, he thought he’d put in an effort and make some himself. He went out to hunt and gathered the ingredients himself. Most of it fruit, but, he did find a chicken. “Dig it, it’s nothing like that shit they give you down in the cafeteria.” He brushed a piece of hair behind his ear, watching her with crossed legs.
When he mentioned her doing stand up comedy, Emerald made a drumming motion with her hands, along with making the typical sound effects that you would hear at the end of a joke that usually wasn’t that funny. After pulling away from the hug, Emerald took a seat down on the blanket, but she didn’t touch anything right away. She figured he could do that, especially because she didn’t really know what he had packed. Birthday dinners in the past had always been on the more elaborate side back home, but they didn’t have that luxury here in Thirteen. Emerald had been without her curling iron for awhile, and that was strange enough as it is. Emerald scanned all the food as he dug it out of the little container. “It does look pretty good. And the scenery is better than the usual cafeteria scenery.”

Smiling over his shoulder, he shrugged them upwards. “Maybe, you’ll just have to wait and see, won’t you?” Letting go of her hand, he swayed from side to side as they rose up through the shaft, grinning brightly when the doors opened. “Aaaalrighty, follow me.” Walking off into the darkness, he waited for his friend to catch up with him. “Anyway, how’s your birthday been so far? Sorry you’ve not seen me ‘till now, I’ve been getting this ready.” As he put his hands in his pockets, he turned to look at the blond with a beam.
Emerald had been in District Thirteen for awhile now, but she was still working on getting used to everything — like the fact they were underground and it required an elevator to get above ground. It was definitely different from Four, and she missed being back home. At least she had people here that she cared about from Four. It brought a little bit of home to Thirteen. When the elevator opened and they were above ground, Emerald raised an eyebrow curiously. “You know, it’s a good thing my brother is on the council. It means we can get away with this stuff without Coin going all nuclear.” She paused. “Hah. Nuclear. Get it? Because we’re in Thirteen?” Hardy har har, Emerald. District Thirteen was the district that dealt with nuclear material before it was supposedly ‘blown up’ by the Capitol. “It’s been alright. Nothing special. I kind of wished I could have been at the beach for it,” she spoke, following him out into the darkness and stopping when they reached their destination. After she spotted her surroundings, she reached over to give him another hug. “Not a bad birthday surprise, I must say.”

Smirking a little, Dean pulled back from the hug and put all of his weight on one side. He knew that Emerald would be intrigued, but, she was going to need to wait to find out. “Aaah, now, that’d be telling, wouldn’t it?” So, grabbing her sleeve a little, he pulled her along towards the entrance of the district. “C’mon, follow me!” It didn’t take them long to reach the doors, and the coast was clear. So, intertwining his fingers with hers, he tugged her along towards the entrance and into the elevator.
There were some kinds of surprises Emerald didn’t like, but birthday surprises were something of an entirely different nature. And after what had been going on lately in District Thirteen, Emerald could do with a good surprise and a good birthday. The blonde raised an eyebrow as he tugged on her sleeve and started going towards the entrance. She wasn’t sure what he had in mind for this, but she still followed along. “Where are we going?” she questioned as he took her hand. “Are we doing something illegal? The best birthday surprises always involve something illegal,” she joked.
Hey, Emerald?
Okay, first off? Happy birthday!
And, secondly. I have a surprise for you.

Oooh! Surprises are good. Do tell what this fabulous surprise is.
Hey, Emerald?
Mind if I steal you for a second?
Steal away. What’s up?
